BIO
My name is Darayus Sethna. I am studying journalism through Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College program with the goal of one day being a sports reporter, broadcaster, or content creator. I am originally from Macedonia, Ohio -- a suburb of the Cleveland area.
I previously attended Nordonia High School and hosted a podcast called The Cleveland Sports Show with NordoniaHills.news. This podcast focused on the latest stories around Cleveland sports as well as other notable sports news around the United States and across the globe. I recorded and published almost 120 episodes from May 2018 through August 2021. I also worked as a writer for NordoniaHills.News and was the play-by-play broadcaster for my school's boys varsity basketball team beginning in my sophomore year until I graduated.
In the summer of 2019, I had the chance to do an internship at 1590 WAKR with Ray Horner, a very well known radio personality in the Akron area. That same year, I was given the opportunity to be an analyst for the Cleveland Cavaliers on his station. I would call in weekly during the 2019-2020 season and discuss the latest news going on with the team and the rest of the NBA.
I am continuing to improve my skills at Ohio University. One of my first experiences was working at The Post, an independent newspaper in the Athens area. I was a beat reporter for the Bobcats field hockey team for the 2021 season. I am currently practicing my play-by-play skills with Bobcat TV and have called multiple games for a variety of Ohio Bobcats athletic teams -- including football, basketball, field hockey, softball and soccer. I've also volunteered in sports broadcasts behind the camera as well, where I've run cameras and graphics.
I also work as a sports reporter at WOUB Public Media, which is based in Athens. My work at WOUB has ranged from news anchoring, writing, one-on-one interviews, game recap videos and audio journalism. I am also part of a podcast called SportsBeat, which airs on local radio every week.
Below is a timeline of my experience in the journalism industry so far.

During the 2019-2020 NBA season (prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic), I was a Cleveland Cavaliers analyst for Ray Horner on his radio station in Akron, 1590 WAKR. This was the first time I had the opportunity to go live on the air and have to provide a quality analysis in a limited amount of time.
This was an amazing opportunity for me to learn about the nightly functions of a professional sports broadcast. I had the chance to talk with commentators such as John Michael, Austin Carr, Rafael Hernandez-Brito, and Mike Snyder.
As a student at Nordonia High School, I was the play-by-play broadcaster for the boys varsity basketball team. This was my first time having a chance to engage with the ins and outs of a sports broadcast.
During my time as host of The Cleveland Sports Show podcast, I learned about what it takes to prepare for a weekly show that relies on providing the latest information. It was a great experience in terms of understanding how to balance between using statistical information and engaging an audience with personal analyses.
